Wildlane is built to help you plan fishing trips with better information while keeping your data transparent and protected.
Last updated: 11 October 2026
1. What information Wildlane collects
Wildlane collects the information needed to create and maintain your account, provide forecasts, and improve the service. This may include:
- account details such as name, email address, username, and sign-in information
- trip logs and saved fishing data such as dates, locations, notes, gear, and catch history
- ratings, feedback, and usage signals such as view history, forecast interactions, and saved preferences
- device and browser information such as operating system, app version, time zone, and device identifiers required for security and diagnostics
- location data that you actively choose to use for a forecast or planning feature, including saved spots and location searches
- environmental or trip-related inputs such as weather, tides, swell, conditions, and activity preferences
- subscription, billing, and support information needed to manage Pro features and customer support
Wildlane does not collect continuous background GPS tracking from your device while the app is closed unless you actively use a location-based feature and choose to share that location information.
2. What we do not collect
Wildlane does not generally collect the following by default:
- precise background location tracking when the app is not in active use
- private contact lists, personal documents, or unrelated device data
- sensitive health, biometric, or medical information
- raw payment card details; card information is handled by the payment provider
- third-party social data or personal data for advertising purposes
If you choose to turn on a location-based forecast feature, we use only the location needed for that request and store only the information needed to provide the service.
3. How we use your data
We use your information to:
- create and maintain your account and subscription status
- generate fishing intelligence, bite scores, weather summaries, and forecast recommendations
- remember trip history, saved spots, ratings, and preferences across sessions
- improve forecast quality, service reliability, and product performance
- detect abuse, protect account security, and investigate issues
- provide support, account updates, and subscription management
4. How data is stored and protected
Wildlane stores personal data in secure hosting, database, and authentication services operated by trusted providers. We apply reasonable technical and operational safeguards, including encrypted transport, restricted access, and secure infrastructure configuration. Access is limited to people who need it to operate, secure, and support the service.
5. Data retention
We keep data only for as long as necessary to provide the service, meet legal obligations, protect against fraud or abuse, resolve disputes, and maintain account functionality. In practice this means:
- active account data is retained while the account remains active
- trip logs, ratings, and saved preferences may be retained for a reasonable period after inactivity, unless you ask for deletion or a legal requirement requires otherwise
- billing and subscription records may be retained longer where required for accounting, tax, or lawful dispute handling
- backup copies are kept only for a limited time and are subject to our security controls
6. User rights and deletion
You have the right to request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your personal data where applicable under local law. You may also request that optional analytics be disabled or that your account be removed. To make a request, email [email protected] from the email address connected to your account and include a short description of the request. We may verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
7. Subscription and billing data
If you subscribe to Wildlane Pro, we may process information needed to manage the subscription, including plan type, renewal date, payment status, invoicing, and cancellation history. Payment details are handled by the payment provider and are not usually stored directly by Wildlane. We keep subscription records only as long as needed to manage billing and customer support.
8. Third-party services and providers
Wildlane uses trusted service providers to deliver the app, store data, process payments, and provide environmental intelligence. These may include hosting providers, authentication providers, database services, cloud infrastructure, payment processors, analytics services (where consent is obtained), and data providers such as NIWA and Open-Meteo. These providers process data only as necessary to provide their services and are subject to their own contractual and legal obligations.
9. Cookies and optional analytics
Wildlane uses essential cookies and similar storage to support logins, saved preferences, and app functionality. Optional analytics may be used only with your consent and for product improvement, performance monitoring, and feature analysis. We do not sell personal data or use cookies for cross-site advertising.
10. Privacy rights in practice
For people in the EU, EEA, and UK, we process personal information for the provision of our service, account administration, security, legal obligations, and, where appropriate, consent-based analytics. For New Zealand users, we aim to comply with the Privacy Act 2020 and the information privacy principles. If you are in another jurisdiction, you may still request access, correction, or deletion in accordance with local law. If we cannot comply with a request in full, we will explain the reason and any lawful limitation.
11. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, privacy requests, or data handling, please contact [email protected]. We will do our best to respond promptly and clearly. If you are a data subject in a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights, you may also contact the relevant supervisory authority if needed.
12. Updates
Wildlane may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or new third-party services. Continued use of Wildlane after an update means you accept the revised policy. We will make reasonable efforts to keep the policy clear and easy to understand.
