Read the flow
Look for a safe position where you can follow your presentation through a defined lane of current. A controlled drift gives you a better chance of noticing whether your lure or bait is reaching the intended depth.
Use a method and tackle permitted for the river you are fishing. Keep hooks sharp and choose a presentation you can control without excessive weight.
Put safety first
River levels can change quickly. Check conditions before wading, use a wading belt where appropriate, and avoid crossing water when you cannot judge the depth or footing. Fish with a companion when conditions are unfamiliar.
Salmon access, seasons, and regulations are specific to each water. Check current local guidance before your trip.
